If you are interested in tracking the developments in Canada immigration, here’s an update from the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island.

The results of the PEI PNP draw that was held on October 21, 2021, are out. The draw had 204 immigration candidates invited and offered a provincial nomination.

In the draw, 195 of the total candidates invited came under the Express Entry and Labor Impact categories. The rest of the candidates were selected from the Business Impact category who had 72 points as the minimum score to qualify.

This PEI PNP draw was the 10th draw conducted by Prince Edward Island in 2021. In all, in 2021, PEI has issued 1,541 invitations.

The upcoming PEI PNP draw is slated to be conducted on November 18, 2021.

Understanding the Express Entry category

The Express Entry category is linked to the federal Express Entry system. That’s the reason why it’s considered an enhanced PNP. Candidates are required to have a federal Express Entry profile to participate in the PNP draw under this category.

Express Entry is a points-based application management system used by the federal government to manage applications for immigration. These applications are filed for 3 federal high-skilled immigration programs namely CEC, FSTP, and FSWP.

The applicants to Express Entry have their profiles added to a candidate pool that's accessible to both federal and provincial governments. Every candidate profile is ranked by CRS with scores assigned. Factors like age, education, work experience, and skills in Canada’s official language are considered to decide the scores.

When provincial governments choose and nominate Express Entry candidates through PNP draws, they automatically add 600 extra points to their original CRS scores. This way, the candidates get a higher score that will increase their chances to get an ITA to the near surety in a forthcoming federal immigration draw.

For a provincial nomination, these candidates need to create an EOI profile with the provincial PNP involved. The EOI profiles are given scores on the province’s unique points grid.

The highest-scoring Express Entry candidates are invited by IRCC to apply for Canada PR when they take part in regular invitation rounds. Those who are invited can officially apply for Canada immigration.

Labor Impact category

If you are a foreign national with a valid job offer in PEI with support from the employer in PEI, you can belong to this category. Candidates under this category must submit an EOI. This will lead to them being considered for a provincial nomination to be granted.

Business Impact category

Candidates belonging to this category are required to get the minimum provincial score requirement. Only this could help them take their applications ahead to the next steps.

PEI issued invitations under the work permit stream in the Oct 21 draw. This stream caters to foreign nationals who are willing to own and run a business in PEI.
