With a Visitor Visa (Subclass 600), you can visit Australia for the purpose of holidaying or visiting family and relatives. Another advantage of this visa is that you can use it to attend to business matters in Australia.

The visa generally allows you to stay for a period of 3, 6, or 12 months. The length of stay will depend on your circumstance of visit. An essential requirement for getting this visa is to produce evidence that you have sufficient funds and incentives to go back home after the visa expires.

Basic Eligibility
  • You must be aged 18 years or more.
  • Your visit to Australia must be for genuine reasons.
  • Your intention must not be to work in Australia.
  • You must have sufficient funds to support yourself till you go back to your home country.
Streams under Subclass 600 visa
Tourist Stream

This stream is meant for you to visit Australia for purposes of tourism. You can also visit your family in Australia, or travel for purposes other than medical treatment or business.

The visa under this stream gets processed between 5 and 6 months. The cost of the visa is $145 if it’s applied for offshore, and $365 is if it’s applied for onshore.

With the visa under this stream, you can:

  • Visit your friends, family, or partner
  • Stay in Australia as a tourist.
  • Study for a period of not more than 3 months
Sponsored Family Stream

This stream comes helpful when your family members in Australia sponsor you to pay them a visit. You can’t work in Australia in the short time you stay in the country under this visa stream.

The visa under this stream generally gets processed between 3 and 7 months. The cost incurred by each applicant comes to $145.

With the visa under this stream, you can:

  • Visit your friends, family, or partner
  • Stay in Australia as a tourist.
  • Study for a period of not more than 3 months
Business Visitor Stream

This is the visa stream you can use for business in Australia. Using this visa stream, you can do some inquiries for business or employment. If you want to attend a trade fair or conference, you can use this visa stream.

You cannot work in Australia holding this visa and your stay will be for a limited period. The visa costs $145 for each applicant.

With the visa under this stream, you can:

  • Do some general business or indulge in some matters of employment.
  • Attend or take part in a trade fair, seminar, or conference.
  • Conduct activities as a part of a government visit.
Steps in visa processing
  1. Prepare all the documents you are required to submit along with the evidence that you are a genuine visitor.
  2. Apply for the visa online through the IMMI account and submit the necessary documents.
  3. Obtain the outcome of your visa application. If your application is approved, you can proceed to arrive in Australia. Otherwise, you can reapply/review the decision as it suits your circumstance.
Electronic Travel Authority (Subclass 601)

This is a visa that grants you unlimited visits within a 12-month period. These visits can be to holiday, visit relatives to attend to their affairs or the purpose of business. The maximum time you can stay in Australia each time you visit the country within the 12-month period is 3 months.

You are to apply for this visa online from outside Australia.

  • You must meet the requirements specified for character and health.

You can accrue certain benefits when you hold this visa. They are:

  • Travel to Australia for a holiday
  • Arrive in Australia on a cruise
  • Volunteer work tourism schemes
  • Visit friends or family
  • Take up some activities as a business visitor
  • Stay for a period of not more than 3 months each time you arrive in Australia

The ETA visa costs nothing for the applicant. However, you will incur an expense of $20 as a service cost.

E-Visitor Visa (Subclass 651)

This visa stream allows you to come to Australia as many times as you wish within 12 months for holidaying, visiting relatives, study/training, or business purposes for a period of not more than 3 months each time you stay in the country.

  • Be aged above 18 years.
  • Not have an intention to work in Australia.
  • Be a genuine visitor.
  • Have sufficient funds to support yourself during your stay until you go back from Australia.

  • File an application from outside Australia.

You have to note that you cannot apply with:

  • A certificate of identity, non-citizen passport, or other travel documents
  • A British Dependent Territories Citizen, British National Overseas, British Overseas Citizen, British Subject Passport, or British Protected Person.

You also have to comply with the requirement of character and must be clean of any criminal records. You must also apply for a Subclass 600 visa as there’s a chance to be refused entry to Australia in case you arrive on an eVisitor visa.

The benefits of a Subclass 651 visa are the following:

  • Travel to Australia on a cruise, visit your friends or family, arrive as a business visitor, or have a holiday.
  • Undertake study or training for a period of not more than 3 months in all and undertake volunteer work on this visa.
  • Do the following as a business visitor:
    • make employment or general business inquiries
    • Conduct investigation, negotiation, signing, or reviewing of a business contract
    • make an official government visit
    • participate in a trade fair, conference, or seminar. (The organizers can’t pay you for your participation. You also can’t work for a business/organization or provide them with services. You also can’t sell goods/services to the public)
  • Leave and come back to Australia any number of times while the validity of the visa is still there.

The EVisitor visa can be applied for free. 90% of the applications get processed within 7 months if there are no issues with your filling the form.

FAQ
How much money must I prove to have to be shown as sufficient funds while applying for my visitor visa?

The amount is usually around AUD 5,000 for each applicant for your initial stay. In addition, you must cover the fare to your destination when going back from Australia. The more money you provide, the better it will be.

If I have a sponsor to support my visa need I provide financial documents?

Even though your sponsor has sufficient funds to support you, you could still submit your financial records as supporting documents.

Can I extend my visitor visa?

In general cases, you are allowed to extend your visitor visa for certain reasons. This extension could be for another 3 or 6 months. It all depends on your circumstances.

Can I include my child and parents in my visa application if they want to visit Australia?

No. Each applicant must apply separately.
