Here are some extra points to keep in mind regarding each factor of selection discussed above:

• For Subclass 189, you are required to have an occupation that’s present on the MLTSSL.
• For Subclass 190, you must be nominated by the government of a state/territory. Also, you are required to have an occupation that’s present on the MLTSSL or STSOL.
• For Subclass 491, you must either have the nomination from the government of a state/territory or must be sponsored by an eligible family member. Also, you are required to have an occupation that’s present on the STSOL, MLTSSL, or ROL.
• Competent English is considered to be any one of the following:
  • IELTS: at least 6 in each component
  • OET: at least ‘B’ in each component
  • TOEFL iBT: 12 in Listening, 13 in Reading, 21 in Writing, 18 in Speaking
  • PTE Academic: A minimum of 50 in each component
  • Cambridge (CAE): A minimum of 169 in each component
• Proficient English is considered to be any one of the following:
  • IELTS: a minimum of 7 in each component
  • OET: a minimum of ‘B’ in each component
  • TOEFL iBT: 24 in Listening, 24 Reading, 27 Writing, 23 Speaking
  • PTE Academic: A minimum of 65 in each component
  • Cambridge (CAE): A minimum of 185 in each component
• Superior English is considered to be any one of the following:
  • IELTS: a minimum of 8 in each component
  • OET: a minimum of ‘A’ in each component; or
  • TOEFL iBT: 28 in Listening, 29 Reading, 30 Writing, 26 Speaking
  • PTE Academic: A minimum of 79 in each component
  • Cambridge (CAE): A minimum of 200 in each component
• Overseas work experience is governed by these criteria:
  • If employment has to be counted it has to be at least 20 hours per week for remuneration
  • The maximum number of points that can be awarded for ‘Australian Work Experience’ and ‘Overseas Work Experience’ combined, is 20 points
• Australian work experience is governed by these criteria:
  • The maximum number of points that can be awarded for ‘Australian Work Experience’ and ‘Overseas Work Experience’ combined, is 20 points
• Australian educational qualification means a degree, diploma, advanced diploma, or trade qualification from an educational institution in Australia which took a minimum of 2 years of full-time study and with the medium of teaching being English.
• Specialist educational qualification means a master’s degree by research or a doctorate degree from an Australian educational institution that includes a minimum of 2 academic years in a relevant field (Natural and Physical Sciences, Information Technology or Engineering and Related Technologies).
• Accredited community language includes:
  • Accreditation at the para-professional level or above
  • Certification at the certified provisional level or above
  • A community language credential
