Know the jobs that pay the highest in Australia

It is wise for people immigrating to Australia to have a fair idea about the Australian job market. Knowing the in-demand jobs, required skills and the highest paying jobs will help you devise a strategy to secure a job in Australia. 

As per the Australia Bureau of Statistics, Australia had 243,000 vacant jobs in May 2019. A report released by the Dept. of Employment, Skills, Small and Family Business states that the following sectors have the maximum skill shortage: 

  • Automotive trades-Motor mechanics, electricians, vehicle painters etc 
  • Engineering- Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineers 
  • Food sector- Chefs, cooks, bakers etc 
  • Nurses 
  • Health professionals 
  • Teachers 

Salary is an important factor based on which people often decide to move abroad. 

As per the 2019 Michael Page Salary Report, here are the jobs that pay the highest in Australia: 

  1. Managing Director in Pharmaceutical, Healthcare or Consumer sectors 

MDs in the pharma or consumer sectors easily take home between $360,000 and $420,000 per year. The ones in the healthcare sector earn between $330,000 and $430,000 per annum. 

  1. Finance Director/ Chief Financial Officer 

CFOs and Finance Directors earn really well in Australia. CFOs in Australia earn between $350,000 and $450,000 per year. Finance Directors can earn between $215,000 and $250,000 per year. 

  1. Construction Project Managers 

Construction Project Managers are one of the most in-demand jobs in Australia. They can easily earn between $350,000 and $400,000 annually. 

  1.  Operation Head in the mining industry 

There has been a 60% rise in the number of new jobs in the mining industry in the last year. Head of Operations in the mining industry get an annual salary between $325,000 and $350,000 per year. 

  1. Sales Director in ICT, Business Services or Consumer sectors 

Sales directors in the ICT sector can take home up to $375,000 per year. Those in the business services sector earn up to $308,000 per year while those in the consumer sector take home up to $285,000 annually. 

  1. Chief Technology Officer/ Head of Technology 

Australia has a growing tech market. In a fast-growing market, CTO and HoT jobs are very high in demand. People in these positions can earn between $300,000 and $350,000 per year. 

  1. HR Director/ HR Head 

HR professionals are key to recruiting the right set of skilled professionals in any industry. HR Directors have an annual salary between $242,000 and $280,000 per year. 

Industries in Australia paying the highest salaries 

The ICT industry in Australia tops the list with 19.6% of job roles which earn more than $200,000 per year. 

The Healthcare and Medical sector comes second with 17.8% of jobs roles earning more than $200,000 per year. 

The third spot goes to the Construction sector where 13.2% of job roles lie above the $200,000 bracket. 

New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland make up the three top spots where you can find jobs paying more than $200,000 annually.
