Canada is a progressive country with laws to protect human rights and boost equality for all genders. It is evident from the substantial number of women, Canadian natives, to immigrant women participating in its workforce.

According to the reports by Statistics Canada, approximately 4.2 million women from foreign countries participate in the workforce of Canada.

A significant number of immigrant women working in Canada

The data of 2022 by Statistics Canada shows that there were 4,200,630 women from other countries participating in the workforce. International individuals are responsible for approximately 100% of the workforce growth of Canada and 75% of the population growth.

According to StatCan report, 83% of women participate in the national workforce. The data by IRCC or Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada states that most immigrant women work in the sectors of hospitality or accommodation and food services.

In the executive positions, one in seven executives were immigrant women. Of the economic principal candidates who came to Canada last year, 620,885 were women. Economic immigration programs aim for candidates who have in-demand skills and experience, which enables them to integrate easily into Canadian society and contribute to the economy of Canada.

Data shows that 66 percent of immigrant women who have a spouse or a common law partner have a higher probability to work full-time.

In August 2021, the Canadian government enacted the Pay Equity Act to address the wage gap between individuals of different genders and ensure fair compensation for women.

Some provinces of Canada have policies that ensure equal pay for women. Pay discrimination on the basis of gender is prohibited in British Columbia, Ontario, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. Equal pay for the similar work is a mandatory in Ontario, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Newfoundland, Yukon, and Northwest Territories.

The government has contributed 6 million CAD for programs for the Racialized Newcomer Women Pilot Program. The candidates in the Pilot program can avail of settlement services, and develop soft skills to help them secure employment, like creating resumes. A significant portion of funding is allotted for preventing gender-based violence.
