Contributory Parent Visa (Subclass 143)

A Contributory Parent Subclass 143 is another permanent visa type introduced by the Australian government that lets a parent move to Australia whose children are Australian citizens, Permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens. The Contributory Parent Subclass 143 allows the applicant to permanently move to Australia and enjoy some social security benefits like healthcare. The applicants can also sponsor their close family members to Australia and travel freely to their native country for the first five years. And if eligible, the applicant can also apply for Australian citizenship.

The visa fee for applying for Contributory Parent Visa (Subclass 143) is AUD47,955. The applicants are advised to keep a little more money to pay for a few miscellaneous expenses like health check-ups, biometrics, etc.

The visa fee must be paid in two installments; the first installment is to be paid at the time of application, and the second installment is paid whenever they ask you to.

There is no specific processing time for this visa, and they are subject to capping and queuing for a particular year. Although your application may take more time to process if:

  • The application is not filled in correctly
  • The supporting documents are not enough and correct
  • Non-payment of the valid visa fee

Requirements

The applicant must match the eligibility criteria mentioned below before applying for a Contributory Parent Visa (Subclass 143). One cannot apply for this visa if they have already held or applied for a Sponsored Parent (Temporary) (subclass 870) visa.

  • Apply as a retiree: If the applicant applies as a retiree, they must not undergo the balance of family test. Also, they won’t require an assurance of support and a sponsor.
  • Have a sponsor: The applicant must need an eligible sponsor that can be their eligible child. You may not have a sponsor only if you apply as a retiree.
  • Must meet the character requirement: Applicants must meet the Australian character requirement.
  • Must meet the health requirement: Applicants must match the Australian health requirement standards to apply for this visa.
  • Meet the balance of family test: Applicants must meet the balance of family test to apply for this visa. They can only be exempted from meeting this test if the applicant applies as a retiree.
  • Must have health insurance: The applicant must have health insurance till you are provided for the parent visa. And your insurance must cover all the necessary medical treatments, including transport.
  • Assurance of Support: You must obtain an assurance of support so that you do not have to rely on the Australian government’s assistance. You do not need any assurance of support if you apply as a retiree.
  • No debt from the Australian government: The applicant or their family members must not owe any debt to the Australian government.
  • Sign the statement: The applicants, if older than 18 years, must sign the Australian Values Statement.
  • No Visa cancellation or refusal history: The applicant must not have a history of any visa cancellation or refusal.
