Are you going to travel to Canada by air? As per the new measure announced by Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, you will have to quarantine in a hotel for 3 days at your own expense from February 22, 2021.

This was announced as a new COVID-19 preventive measure by the Canadian CM in a press conference on February 12, 2021. The new measure also prescribes that the traveler must take a quarantine test upon arrival in Canada.

The 3-day quarantine in a government facility is meant to let the traveler have enough time to get the results of his/her PCR test. As soon as their PCR test results arrive as negative, the travelers can go home and continue the remaining part of their quarantine there in case they have a quarantine plan.

The cost estimated for the travelers to stay in the hotel on quarantine is $2,000. The hotel staff must take the travelers to the quarantine destination from the airport. They also must provide meals, and allow internet access and access to radio and TV.

International flights to Canada are allowed to land only in the airports of Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal. Along with taking the PCR test at the Canadian airport, they must also give proof of a negative test result that they procured before they started their journey to Canada.

Those who cross into Canada via land borders must provide a COVID test that resulted in negative. The test must have been done not more than 72 hours before crossing the Canadian border. The ones who had previously tested positive for COVID-19 but have recovered must produce a test report that confirms that. That test must be conducted between 14 and 90 days before departure to Canada on a visa like a Canada travel visa. Non-compliance to this requirement will end up in the traveler paying fines up to $3,000 per day or else be prosecuted on criminal charges.

Exemption to such measures is given to essential travelers like truck drivers. They are considered essential people who arrive to work in Canada in critical jobs and job areas.
