Switzerland decided to cap foreign skilled worker visas

Switzerland's government has decided to recruit a large number of foreign skilled workers to enter the country for work purposes in 2025. The country will issue work visa for 8,500 qualified, experienced workers.  Out of 8,500 qualified skilled workers- 4,500 workers will be issued a B residence permit, and 4,000 will be issued an L short-term residence permit. By keeping the quota for foreign workers unchanged, Switzerland wants to ensure that the country's economy does not deal with a labor shortage.

Special quota for the UK workers

The Swiss government has decided to have a particular or separate quota for UK nationals. From 2025, 3, 5000 UK skilled workers will be recruited in Switzerland. Around 2,100 will be granted B residence permits, and 1 4000 will be granted L short-stay permits.

Utilization of Quota by Foreign Workers in 2023 and 2024

As per the recent data of 2023, the foreign worker quotas still need to be used up ultimately. In 2023, the third-country nations used up quotas for 78% of 2023, whereas in October, 63% were used by third-country nations.

The admission of foreign workers is based on the needs of the Swiss economy, and domestic workers, as well as those from the EU/EFTA, have priority.
