Sweden has announced to reduce the processing time of the EU Blue Card to attract qualified skilled workers to the country, and retain talent. The processing time for the EU Blue card is now reduced from 90 days to 30 days.
The processing time will apply to highly qualified workers with Intra-Corporate Transferee Permits and researchers within the highly skilled worker group. The new time frame will only be applicable for those who have submitted a complete and accurate application. The shortened application process does not apply for candidates who want to work in industries that require additional examinations in line with Sweden's four-tier assessment system.
Sweden is also working to lower the salary requirement for obtaining an EU Blue Card. As of August, the monthly salary requirement for an EU Blue Card is €866. Sweden is not the only EU member state country that has announced changes to the EU Blue Card; Estonia also recently introduced revisions for those who want to obtain an EU Blue Card. To apply for an Estonia EU Blue Card, a foreign national must have five years of professional experience in their field, even without educational qualifications.
