More than 300,000 migrants in Spain can obtain work and residency permits annually through 2027. The policy will be effective in May 2025 and is set to address the labor market shortage amid the country's aging population.
In addition to offering residency and work permits, the Spanish government will also improve the application process for obtaining documentation. Spain plans to tackle labor shortages by regularising migrants instead of outsourcing other foreign nationals.
Spain requires around 250,000 foreign workers to maintain its economy. Between January and November, 54,000 migrants entered the country. Compared to 2023, 15.8% more immigrants arrived in Spain in 2024.
The new policy measures will streamline the residency and work visa process, allowing migrants to be self-employed or salaried workers with labor rights. The measure will also extend the Job Seeker visa from three months to one year.
