The demand for an H1B visa is far from over! Now, international IT professionals who are IT professionals can get closer to getting their opportunity to work in USA. The US government has decided to hold a second lottery for the cherished H1B visa.

Why a second lottery?

The USCIS decided to conduct this second lottery as the computerized draw held earlier this year didn’t fill the number of candidates required to meet the H1B visa mandate made by Congress.

As the USCIS stated, the second lottery was necessary to get more registrations so that they could meet the standard visa allocations for FY 2022. The filing of petitions on the basis of registrations selected on July 28, 2021, is slated to commence on August 2, 2021. This will close on November 3, 2021.

With the second lottery, many IT professionals the world over will get another chance to try to make it to the USA.

Only petitioners whose registrations have been selected for financial year 2022 have the eligibility to file H-1B petitions that are subject to a cap. April 1, 2021, to June 30, 2021, will be the period for initial filing for individuals with selected registrations for FY 2022.

Other points to ponder

  • The annual cap for H1B visas is 65,000 applications.
  • Online filing isn’t available for H1B petitions.
  • Registration selection is only indicative of the fact that they are eligible for filing H1B petitions that are subject to a cap. It doesn’t guarantee that the petition will get approval.
