The details of the revised eligibility requirements for the citizenship of Australia will be officially declared in some days and it is very apparent now that the new norms will be more stringent. It has already been clarified that the existing eligibility for the residence of one year will be increased to four years. The applicants for the citizenship will also have to demonstrate that in this time duration they have assimilated well into the society of Australia. More details are likely to be announced in June. Peter Dutton the Immigration Minister of Australia had clarified when he made the announcement for changes to the citizenship that mere a level of English knowledge will not suffice to demonstrate the adoption to the way of life that is Australian. The deliberations for revamping the citizenship will conclude on June 1, 2017, as quoted by Australia Forum. The details will be announced very soon after this and this includes increasing the questions in the test of citizenship that is multiple choices in nature and modifications to the pledge that has to be sworn by every new citizen of Australia. The changes are also likely to include the requirement for demonstrating having worked for the four years for consideration of citizenship of Australia and that the children have received schooling, added Dutton. He also elaborated that according to him these aspects are not being assessed sufficiently as of now. The Immigration Minister of Australia also gave indications that new background verifications for the prospective applicants of citizenship will be examined more extremely. Dutton clarified that the prospective applicants for citizenship of Australia will however not be asked to desert their background, culture or heritage. They will only be asked to respect and honor the same as it is being done by the existing immigrants in Australia, said Dutton.
