Ontario adopts new EOI system, makes immigration process better

Ontario opens new EOI system for immigration

Ontario has started a new EOI system that is applied to 2 of its Canada provincial immigration programs. These 2 streams in the Employer Job Offer category of OINP are:

  • International student
  • Foreign worker

OINP has plans to open the EOI system for the following streams in the future:

  • D. Graduate
  • Masters Graduate
  • In-Demand Skills

What does this mean for Ontario immigration?

As opposed to the earlier system with OINP, candidates willing to eventually apply for Canada immigration via Ontario’s PNPs can now submit an EOI profile at any time. Earlier this could be done only after the online portal was opened by OINP.

Based on the scores assigned to the candidates’ profiles, OINP will invite candidates to apply for a provincial nomination. The EOI profile registered has a validity of 12 months, after which the EOI will be removed automatically from the system.

The scores given for EOI profiles are based on factors such as education, wage, the region in which the candidate studies or works, and language skills. 10 points are granted as per its discretion for responding to the province’s labor market requirements.

The reasons behind Ontario switching to an EOI system

  • The province was in need of a new system of selecting immigrants for its PNPs that operates beyond the Express Entry System.
  • The province wanted to change from its old system that worked on a “first come first served” basis.

The new EOI selection system has been approved for application in the spring of 2021.
