1st July 2019 marks the beginning of the new Australia immigration program year. New South Wales, one of the most popular states in Australia has introduced new changes to the nomination program.

The Subclass 190 Visa requires you to be nominated by a State/Territory in Australia.

To apply for a nomination from NSW, certain occupations have to fulfill some additional requirements. For some occupations, you may only get a nomination if you live and work in NSW.

NSW has also launched a system which will show the availability of visa places for occupations on the state’s list. The NSW Govt. will regularly update the same to show the current status.

As per the NSW immigration website, there is a high demand for nominations by NSW. The NSW State Govt. will continue to invite highest-ranked candidates that meet the nomination criteria of NSW. These candidates would be working in occupations which are on the Priority Occupation List of NSW.

Some occupations on the Priority Occupation List will now need to fulfill some additional eligibility criteria. Candidates nominating these occupations should be currently living in NSW and should be working in the nominated occupation for at least a year.

NSW will no longer nominate candidates for some occupations who do not live and work in NSW. The new changes will especially affect occupations like Engineering, Accounting, Nursing and IT.

Many international graduates move from Victoria to NSW as the NSW occupation list is more extensive compared to Victoria’s. However, international graduates from Victoria in IT and Accounting would no longer be able to apply for NSW nomination under the new rules. The new rules bring cheer to those already living and working in NSW as the competition for nomination would be greatly reduced.

Candidates nominating the occupations of Cooks, Chefs and Motor Mechanics can rejoice as these occupations are in high demand. Candidates who are not currently living and working in NSW can also apply for these occupations, as per SBS News.

The NSW Govt’s decision to update the availability of occupations has also been hailed as a good move. Applicants will now have a clear idea which occupations require high points and which have low availability.
