Here’s giving you an idea about what nationals contribute most to the population of new Australian citizens.

Alan Tudge, the Acting Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services, and Multicultural Affairs of Australia, announced that an amazing record number of people had committed their allegiance to the country in 2019-20.

In the financial year 2019-20, 204,817 people were granted Australian Citizenship. That was a 60% increase from the previous financial year. It was also the highest number on record.

Here are the top 5 countries the nationals of which joined the Australian population in 2019-20.

India 38,209
United Kingdom 25,011
China 14,746
Philippines 12,838
Pakistan 8,821
Vietnam 6,804
Sri Lanka 6,195
South Africa 5,438
New Zealand 5,367
Afghanistan 5,102
Others 76,268

Among the states of Australia, the one that conferred the largest number of citizens was Victoria with 60,081 people. Then came NSW with 58,833, Queensland with 31,714, Western Australia with 30,394 and South Australia with 14,135 people.

The total of new additions to Australian citizens in 2018 was 80,649. So, the number has just doubled in the 2019-20 period!

Alan Tudge congratulated all the new citizens of Australia who joined via immigration to Australia from India and other countries. Australia has always looked at immigration as a force that contributes to the nation’s multicultural and harmonious nature.

The applications for Australian citizenship have increased lately, especially in the event of the COVID-19 pandemic. There are now 138,319 applicants waiting to go through the citizenship test and get an invitation to the interview.

Many who desire that the immigration procedures resume have submitted a petition to the government. This is done in the background of easing health concerns due to COVID-19.

Hence, the Department of Home Affairs will resume citizenship interviews and testing adhering to COVID-19 health guides.

In Sydney and Perth, interviews and tests have started in small numbers. With reducing numbers of COVID-19 cases and the ceasing of the contagion, this and other processes of immigration Australia follows will be set right back on track.

Right now, priority is given to the safety of people and hence the low-key resumption of operations.
