MATES - Mobility Arrangement for Talented Early-professionals Scheme

The new scheme will also be including a new pilot program named Mobility Arrangement for Talented Early-professionals Scheme (MATES). MATES will come with an annual ceiling of 3000 places for four years.

A new mobility pathway will be offered by MATES for Indian graduates and early career professionals. However, they must have the skills and knowledge in their relevant field of study to live and work in Australia for up to two years.

The first list of eligible educational qualifications under this program includes ICT, mining, FinTech, engineering, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, AgriTech, etc. A joint working group will be appointed at a later date and will be adding more areas.

Changes to be made by the Australian government

The government said that the points test to select skilled migrants will be modified so that it can spot the correct people with the required skill sets that the Australian economy will be needing going forward.

Also, the government promised that the high-skilled professionals’ visa process would be quicker and simpler. Additional steps will also be taken to keep the international students.
