The UK, Canada, and the USA are 3 of the best destinations for international students to study. If you are confused about whether to study in UK, Canada, or the USA, it will be right to give you some detail on how it will be for you to choose any one of these countries for studies.

All these countries have a wide range of choices in colleges and universities as well as the courses they offer. Let’s evaluate these destinations by certain important factors that you need to consider when it comes to making a choice to study abroad.

Factor to consider USA UK Canada
Tuition fees The average tuition fee is $28,000 per annum. Depending on whether you are choosing a private or public university, the fees can go as high as $50,000. The average tuition fee comes to around $20,000 per annum. The tuition fee, based on the course and university selected can range between $7,500 and $26,000 per annum. On average, it comes to $12,000 per annum.
Cost of living The average living cost is $16,000 per annum. The cost can vary depending on whether your university is located in a rural or urban area. It also depends on whether you choose to live on-campus or off-campus. The annual rent and living costs per annum come between $16,000 and $22,000. A 3-year course in the UK can cost from $48,000 to $66,000 in all. This could be the cost incurred for the duration of a UK undergraduate degree program. The cost could be higher in a city like London. The average cost of living in Canada for a student is $10,000 per annum. The cost of living can range between $8,550 and $13,000.
Scholarships Compared to the cost of study, opportunities for merit scholarship are comparatively less in the US. However, there are many universities offering up to 100% aid to students found deserving on a need basis. It’s rare that a scholarship or financial aid is available to international students in the UK. A broad range of scholarships and financial aids is available for international students in Canadian universities.
Quality of Education 5 of the top 10 universities in the world are in the USA. There are 170 American universities ranked as the best in the world. The rankings are done after regular and continuous assessments and submission around the year. There are many interests and subjects that students can choose from. 4 of the UK’s prestigious educational institutions are in the top 20 of world rankings. Classes are delivered in a lecture-based fashion and the final grade depends on the final exams at the end of the term. The major students attracted by the UK are undergraduate law students. You decide your final degree in the application stage itself. 3 Canadian universities are in the world’s top 100 universities. The University of Toronto and McGill University are top-class universities to do STEM and Business Management courses. In terms of flexibility, Canada stands somewhere in the middle of the USA and the UK.
Application and admission procedure The USA has the most extensive application process. It assesses analytical abilities, community service, and leadership among others apart from academic performance. A competitive application to a top US college will be backed by standardized tests like the ACT/SAT/AP, teacher recommendations, multiple essays, and interviews. UK has a simpler procedure for application compared to the USA. Applicants have to submit a Statement of purpose as well as a teacher recommendation. You can apply to only up to 5 UK universities via the UCAS portal. In Canada, applicants have to apply to each university individually. Canadian universities need few essays and/or video answers along with LORs and transcripts.
Securing the visa It’s complex and time-consuming to obtain and retain a student visa in the US. The points-based system for obtaining a UK student visa makes the process a lengthy one. Canada offers a shorter and simpler process to apply for a Canadian student visa.
Opportunity for employment International students in the USA get a year’s OPT. STEM graduates get OPTs with 3-year validity. With sponsorship by a company or organization, the OPT work permit can be converted into a work visa. International students who started their studies in the UK in 2020 or afterward will get the benefit of the new post-study work visa. It will allow graduates to stay in the UK for up to 2 years to seek employment after graduation. Canada permits international students to work in the country for a maximum period of 3 years post-graduation. This is called the PGWP. It helps international students to work in Canada and opens a pathway to Canada PR.
