On April 16, 2020, Canada conducted its latest Express Entry draw. In this draw, 3,782candidates were chosen and sent the invitation to Accept (ITA) to apply for Permanent Residence (PR).

This draw was special in Canada Immigration of 2020 as it had the lowest Canada Express Entry points (CRS score) of 455. The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is a criterion used by the Canadian federal government to score candidates under Express Entry System. A minimum CRS score is necessary to qualify for invitations.

The latest Canada PR Express Entry draw came just a day after another draw in which 118 candidates were sent ITAs. These were candidates under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). The April 16 draw invited CEC (Canadian Experience Class) program's candidates.

Now, the total number of candidates invited in the last 2 draws has come up to 3,900. As for targeting only CEC candidates, this draw is the fourth of its kind. The decision of the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to conduct the draw in this manner has a very probable reason. The reason is that CEC candidates are most likely present in Canada only. That’s because of the restrictions currently in effect to prevent the COVID-19 outbreak.

Canada seems to be catching up with its ambitions as it shows good signs of progress in immigration processes. So far this year, immigration Canada has issued 30,400 ITAs. Compare it with 85,300 ITAs sent in the whole of 2019. That will tell a lot about Canada’s progress in immigration operations.

Canada has already told the world that it aims to achieve really impressive numbers in its Immigration Level Plans for 2020-22. The targets of immigrants to be invited to Canada are as follows:

  • 341,000 in 2020
  • 351,000 in 2021
  • 361,000 in 2022

To add to this, Canada has also projected a 20% increase in PNP admissions by 2022.

The tie-breaking rule used on January 20, 2020, at 15:20:02 UTC was implemented in this draw also. What this means is eligible candidates who received an ITA in this invitation round are those who:

  • had a CRS score of 455 or more, and
  • had submitted their profiles before the date and time given above.

Canada has great plans for its 3 Federal Skilled Immigration programs in 2020 and 2021. The country will work towards succeeding in these plans by conducting draws more often and much larger in the coming days.
