Crucial changes to Australia Visas implemented from 1 July

Crucial changes to Australia Visas have been implemented by the Government that will affect the immigrant community - overseas and in the nation. It is inclusive of diverse reforms for several visas in the skilled visa categories.

Skilled immigration points enhanced

The points required for skilled immigration to Australia have now been enhanced to 65 points. This includes the skilled visa categories such as Regional Sponsored, Nominated, and Independent.  Earlier 60 points were required, as quoted by the SBS.

The increase in points required for skilled immigration to Australia will impact several thousands of aspiring immigrants.

Global Talent Visa scheme

The Global Talent Visa scheme will commence from July 2018. This will be on a pilot basis for 1 year. It consists of 2 streams – Established Business Stream and Startup Stream.

The aim of the Global Talent Visa is to attract highly skilled overseas workers to deliver innovation needed by the tech industry in Australia.

Visa fees increased

The Australia visa application charges have been increased for some of the visa categories from 1 July.  The applicants of Partner Visa will now have to pay 7, 160 $from the earlier 7, 000 $. The applicants of Subclass 188 Provisional Business Innovation and Investment Visa will have to now pay 8, 770$. They had to earlier pay 8, 580 $.

It is hoped by the Australian government that the increase in visa application fees will generate 410 million dollars in the 4 year period till 2021.
