On the COVID-19 precaution side, Canada acts on more measures

More precautionary measures from Canada have rolled out to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and its new variants into the country. These new rules on international travel do more than the multi-layered approach that the country is already taking on the pandemic.

The Canadian government and its airlines have already suspended all flights between Canada and Mexico as well as Caribbean countries. This suspension will be in effect till April 30, 2021.

From the midnight of February 3, 2021, more measures are taken over and above the negative departure test. Transport Canada will take the flight restrictions to the following Canadian airports:

• Toronto Pearson International Airport
• Montréal-Trudeau International Airport
• Vancouver International Airport
• Calgary International Airport

The new flight restrictions will include commercial flights scheduled for passengers from Mexico, the USA, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America. Business/private and charter flights from any country will be landed at the 4 airports listed above. Only cargo flights and flights from Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon will be exempted.

It will soon be required that all air travelers coming to Canada will have to reserve a room in a hotel approved by the Canadian government. The travelers will have to stay there 3 nights at their own expense. They will also have to take a COVID-19 molecular test upon arriving in Canada, at their own expense.

Coming to more measures that affect Canada immigration, the Canadian government will require the travelers to present the result of the molecular test taken not more than 72 hours before arrival. This will be applicable to those who are trying to enter Canada via land. The only exemptions here will be people like commercial truckers.

Canada will also continue its collaboration with partners in the USA to strengthen border measures to keep both countries safe.

The security companies that help to ensure compliance with the safety measures have collaboration with PHAC. The employees of these companies will get trained by PHAC. They will be granted authority as Screening Officers. Their posting will be in accordance with the Quarantine Act.

They will visit quarantine locations, establish contact, confirm identity, and make sure that the travelers are present at the place designated for quarantine that they themselves identified upon arriving in Canada. Starting with Toronto and Montreal, they will conduct their visits in 35 Canadian cities.
