Canada and Italy have signed a bilateral youth mobility agreement under the IEC program. The new agreement has the following advantages:
  • They will be able to work and travel for 12 months in the participating countries.
  • The youth from Canada and Italy aged 18 to 35 years will get better access to the labor market in the countries.
  • Candidates can participate twice in the program following the agreement for 24 months in all.
  • The candidates can gain professional work experience with 2 additional streams namely:
    • Young Professionals
    • International Co-op

The first youth mobility agreement between Canada and Italy was signed in 2006. The implementation of the new agreement will be done after the ratification in both countries.

Canada has formal youth mobility arrangements with 36 nations and foreign territories. Since 2008, 200,000 Canadians have participated in the IEC program.

Even with the COVID-19 pandemic crisis still lingering, this new agreement will facilitate new opportunities for future work and travel. This will happen once the conditions in both countries around the pandemic become conducive for people to move without risking themselves.

Right now, only youth with current and valid job offers and Canada work visa can travel to Canada under the IEC program.

Implementing this program will bring in more Italian youth who are willing to work in Canada.
