Highlights of BCPNP modified points allocations for applicants

  • British Columbia Provincial Nomination Program (BCPNP) switch to the newly update NOC codes and modified its point allocations for the applicants.
  • The Human capital factors of Express Entry managed programs like work experience, Higher education, and language proficiency points allocations are modified.
  • The highest points that the Human-capital and Economic factors are now summed up to be 200.

BCPNP Points system modified in terms of points allocations for the applicants

  • The Express Entry managed program's points system is used to access applicants’ eligibility for immigration under Permanent residence. The following are the reasons:
  • The skill level points for National Occupation Class (NOC) have been upgraded based on the jobs classification and have been moved to TEER classification.
  • The number of points allocated to human capital factors under work experience, skills, education, and other competencies of an applicant has been increased.
  • The economic factors under income, job offer, and employment of the applicant have been modified.
  • The professional designations & language proficiency (English and French) has been given additional points.
  • For previous working experience or the individual studying outside Vancouver, points have been added.

Changes in Points allocation in detail

Change 1: Points are not allocated to NOC that is related to the job offer

One of the first notable modifications is removing the points based on the NOC skill level of the job offer. Earlier there were 60 points for a job offer based on the NOC skill level. These points are now distributed between both the economical and human capital factors of the applicants.

Change 2: Points re-allocation

In concern to the removal points for the NOC code of the job offer, there is an increased weightage point for human and economic factors.

  • The direct work experience will get a maximum of 60 points (earlier it was 40)
  • Level of higher education will get a highest of 40 points (earlier it was 25)
  • Proficiency in a language in English or French will get a maximum of 40 points (earlier it was 30)
  • The job offer that is of hourly wages will get a highest of 55 points (earlier it was 50)
  • In British Columbia Area will get a maximum of 25 points (earlier it was 10)

Change 3: Points allocated for some eligible professional designations:

Under the economic factors, an additional 5 points have been allocated for the eligible professional designations of the applicants. These professions include valid trade certificate that is held by SkilledTradeBC or even ITABC.

Change 4: CLB - 9 will receive a full score, with ability in both French & English recognized

The language ability under Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 9 will get a maximum score of 30 points. The applicant who has the ability in both French and English will get additional 10 points for the applicants.

CLB is something which is Canada’s national standard for assessing language ability based on official tests in language.

Change 5: Adapt weightage for location in British Columbia

The additional changes are made to the district of employment of applicants in B.C. in case the selected locations previously are from outside Vancouver will get the tiered number of points, the modified score criteria allocates are as follows:

  • 0-points for employment in the Vancouver district;
  • 5-points for employment in the Abbotsford, Agassiz, Chilliwack, Mission, and Squamish districts; and
  • 15-points, for any of the areas in B.C. which are not already mentioned.

Note: Additional points are allocated to individuals who have specific regional education or work experience.

Change 6: Higher wage slab

One of the final changes to the points system was a higher wage slab to get a maximum based on the salary. The additional points allocated are 5 added to the applicants are now 55, earlier it is 50.
