Austria is making transit through the country easier for travelers from certain countries with the latest move of introducing a transit form. This form must be filled while passing through the country. This will help avoid going through unnecessary columns at border cross points.
As per the new decision, citizens from the following countries have to give a declaration when they arrive in Austria. These countries are:
- Bosnia & Herzegovina
The transit form must be filled and submitted by the citizens of the following countries:
- North Macedonia
- Russian Federation
- South Africa
- Spain (except the Canary Islands)
- Hubei Province (China)
- The USA
If Slovakian citizens are returning home from a different country and passing through Austria, they must fill a transit form. But if Slovakia’s citizens are traveling through Austria otherwise, they needn’t fill the transit form. This is because Austria treats Slovakia as a safe country based on the COVID-19 situation in the country.
To illustrate this, imagine a Slovakian citizen is going to Austria for shopping or on a tourist visa from Slovakia. He/she needn’t fill a transit form and declare himself/herself negative in COVID-19 test upon entering Austria. Such a traveler needn’t go through quarantine too.
As per the new rules announced by the Austrian Ministry of Internal Affairs, as updated on August 17, 2020, a renewed list of countries the citizens of which can enter Austria have been prepared. Also, new quarantine measures have been prescribed for those arriving in Austria, say on Austria tourist visa. For example, a mandatory COVID-19 test is to be done for those arriving from high-risk countries.
