The Australian Govt. will increase its efforts to attract talented tech leaders, tech experts and research developers to migrate permanently to Australia.

A new scheme called the GTIP (Global Talent Independent Program)aims to actively seek out tech talent. It was launched in June without much fanfare. Immigration Minister, David Coleman, is soon expected to reveal important details about how the scouting model will work. Details are also awaited about the industries and sectors that the program will cater to.

The GTIP will be separate from the GTES (Global Talent Employer-Sponsored Scheme). The GTES was recently made permanent after a 12-month pilot.

As per the Dept. of Home Affairs, the GTIP aims to attract high-skilled professionals at the top of their professions to Australia. The program will help in skill transfer thereby creating more job opportunities for Australians. The DHA plans to promote the GTIP both in Australia as well as abroad.

The DHA also said that it will have Global Talent Officers working in major locations abroad to attract global talent, as per IT News. These Global Talent Officers will also work with local industries to identify talented professionals.

Initially, the GTIP plans to recruit 5,000 skilled immigrants for PR.  However, these numbers would be a part of the annual admission intake.

Global Talent Officers placed at key locations will scout the best talents in high growth industries and encourage them to migrate to Australia. These officers have already been placed in locations like Berlin, Shanghai, Dubai, Singapore and the US.

Permanent Residency and potential Australian citizenship will be a major attractor for techies to high tech industries in Australia.
