Australia to cap work hours for international students from June 2023

Highlights for a cap on the working hours of international students in Australia

  • Australian students are to have unrestricted working hours till June 30, 2023.
  • The number of working hours for international students would be revised and will be capped after July 2023.
  • With the change in the rule, bachelor graduates will be allowed to remain in Australia for 4 years, Master's Graduates for 5 years, and 6 Ph.D. graduates.

Australia to a cap on the working hours for international students

The working hours for International students might receive a cap from July 2023 to bring back the right balance between study and work.

The unrestricted working hours will come to halt by June 30, 2023. These restricted hours are getting revised to bring the right balance between study and work.

Previously, the Australian government announced a relaxation in working hours for student visa holders in Australia in January 2022 to address the manpower shortages. Before this relaxation, international students in Australia had a limit of 40 hours a fortnight for work.

Recently, the Australian government announced extensions for post-study work permits for international students in Australian industries with a skills shortage.

International Students in Australia Get an Extension of 2 Years to Work

With the new rule that is changed, the Australian government permits:

  • Bachelor Graduates to stay in the country for four years
  • Master’s Graduates to stay in Australia for five years
  • Ph.D. Graduates to stay in the country for six years

Currently, undergrad international students are allowed to remain in Australia for 2-years, Master Graduates for 3-years, and Doctoral graduates for 4-years. Soon the Australian government to announce the degrees that get priority.
