Australia expects a surge in Indian tourists for T20 World Cup

India is, at present, the fastest-growing source market for Tourism Australia. For the past 5 consecutive years, the number of Indian tourists has grown in double digits. 

The ICC T20 Cricket World Cup is around the corner and Australia is gearing up to welcome spectators from all across the globe. Australia will host both the women and men T20 Cricket World Cup across 8 cities. 

The Women’s T20 Cricket Tournament is scheduled from 21st February to 8th March 2020. The Men’s T20 Cricket Tournament is scheduled from 18th October to 15th November 2020. The finals of both the World Cup’s will be held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the largest cricket stadium in the world. 

Previously, Australia had hosted the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2015. Almost 100,000 tourists from across the world  Australia to witness this World Cup. 

The finals of the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup will be held on 8th March 2020, International Women’s Day”.  

Simon Birmingham, Tourism Minister, announced $5 million additional funding for Tourism Australia. The funding was meant to promote the T20 World Cups and increase the inflow of international tourists to Australia. It was also meant to increase the appeal of Australian tourism in India. 

Nishant Kashikar is the Country Manager for Tourism Australia for India and the Gulf. He says that India is now the 6th largest source market for Australia in terms of spend, as quoted by The Hindu. 

India is the fastest-growing source market of international tourists to Australia. Australia’s goal of having 300,000 Indian tourists by 2020 was met 3 years earlier by December 2017. 

Australia has always been a preferred destination for many high-value Indian tourists. There were 372,100 Indian tourists in Australia by June 2019 which is an 11% increase as compared to the previous year. 

Many initiatives are underway to handle the expected surge in Indian tourists to Australia in 2020. Indian travellers can apply for a visa online through the Dept. of Home Affairs. Australia does not need you to submit your passport, biometrics or hard copies of any financial documents. There is also no need for biometrics and a personal interview. 

Online Tourists Visas have a processing time of 15 days with a visa validity of around 12 months. 

Australia expects the number of Indian tourists to increase to half a million by 2020 and a million by 2025.
