Highlights: Canada welcomed candidates through PGP programs in 2023

  • IRCC received 12.4 per cent of immigrants the previous year, 2023

Details of the PGP program:

IRCC welcomed immigrants through the PGP program that invites parents and grandparents. A Canadian citizen can sponsor parents or grandparents. Canada's most popular province saw the most significant number of invitations. Ontario was the first to get 12,660 parents and grandparents in the first 11 months. Here is the table that provides the provinces and territories following immigrants settling in 2023:

Under this immigration Level plan, Ottawa had its immigration plan of inviting 465,000 new permanent residents in 2023.

In the 2024-2026 Immigration Level Plan, Canada is planning to invite the following:

In three years, it’s a total of 1.485 million. As per the PGP program, the Applicant must pay $1,050 to sponsor a parent or grandparent, and that process can take up to 23 months—the people being supported must provide their biometrics.

 

Once the Canadian citizen is ready to sponsor them, they are sent an ITA and must submit two applications:

 

  • The Sponsorship application
  • The Permanent residence application

Eligibility Criteria

A particular document should be submitted to be eligible for Sponsor a parent or grandparent program:

 

  • A receipt of an Invitation to Apply
  • Being above 18 years
  • Canadian Residency
  • Sufficient funds to support them
  • Proof of income
  • Meeting all requirements under IRCC

 

Responsibility of relatives towards the Sponsor:

The Sponsor also means the sponsorship agreement that they should meet even in the Case of:

 

  • Separation or divorce;
  • Family rifts;
  • Unemployment;
  • Change in finances and even
  • Death of the principal Applicant.

 

 To accept responsibility for their parents and grandparents through sponsorship agreements under the PGP, any kind of criminal report or financial issue can render a Canadian citizen or permanent resident ineligible for this program. The Applicant may not be eligible if:

 

  • In a jail or prison
  • Didn’t pay back immigration loan or performance bond
  • Failed to make court-ordered family support payments such as alimony or child support;
  • Didn’t give the financial support specified under a sponsorship agreement to sponsor someone else in the past;
  • Declared bankruptcy and are not discharged;
  • Receive social assistance for a reason other than a disability;
  • Were convicted of a violent criminal offence, any offence against a relative or any sexual Offence inside or outside Canada, or;
  • They can’t legally stay in Canada and must leave the country because they received a removal order.

 

One can’t sponsor their parents or grandparents if they receive a removal order.

Applicants should keep their current information:

 

The important that must be highlighted during the application:

 

  • Changes in relationship status;
  • Birth or adoption of a child;
  • Death of an applicant or dependant;
  • Contact information such as e-mail addresses, phone numbers, and mailing addresses.

 

The Applicant must make all the necessary changes by themselves. IRCC is not responsible for doing it. After the Applicant receives the ITA, they have 30 days to provide the biometric information.
