• The home office has given stats of the 1.2 million UK visas issued in first half of 2023.
• The UK issued nearly 500,000 study visas, 23% increase from the previous year.

1.2 million UK visas issued in the first 6 months of 2023

According to official statistics, 321,000 UK work visas were issued in the year leading up to June as employers scurried to find workers abroad due to a persistent labor shortages.

Over the previous year, there were 45% more work visas supplied. Nationals of India and Nigeria made up the majority of the group.

According to official statistics, immigrants were granted visas to work as employers in the UK:

Due to employers being unable to fill more than a million positions, the government has answered by growing the list of shortage occupations and its system of visa rule exemptions to make it easier to bring workforces into the country.

 In 2022, net migration surpassed a record 606,000. The Home Office keeps track of temporary workers but does not include emigration in its statistics on visas, which makes them different.

UK Dependent visas

The UK Dependent visas for family members of employees and students have also been a problem. The most recent figures show that they nearly doubled to 372,000.

Reasons for 157% increase in the no. of UK visas compared to 2022

This indicates that the UK is in dire need of people to fulfill the workforce demands. Last year the immigration numbers went up to 0.6 million. This year within 6 months the numbers were increased more than 157%.
