Australia’s Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) Subclass 187 Visa is the golden ticket for skilled professionals seeking to live, work, and contribute to the growth of Australia’s regional areas. The Subclass 187 visa lets skilled workers who have been nominated by their regional Australian employers to live and work in the country permanently.

The visa is classified under Direct Entry Stream and Temporary Residence Transition stream. Currently, the visa is not accepting any new applications under the Direct Entry Stream.

The cost of Australia’s Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme visa through the Temporary Residence Transition stream is AUD4,240 for the primary applicant. There will be an additional charge for each family member applying with the principal applicant.
The processing times for the streams vary depending on the applications.

Eligibility criteria for Temporary Residence Transition Stream

  • Must have the required skills
  • Must comply with licensing, registration or membership
  • Must be of 45 years or less
  • Must get a nomination from the employer
  • Must hold the required visa
  • Must meet health and character requirement

 

Requirements for Temporary Residence Transition Stream

  • Must have the required skills: Applicants must possess the necessary skills and qualifications for performing the occupation of the nominated profession.
  • Must comply with licensing, registration, or membership: In case of a mandate in the state or territory of the applicant, one must become a member of, get registered, or be licensed under a professional body.
  • Must be of 45 years or less: Applicants for the Subclass 187 visa must be under the age of 45. However, there are a few conditions where one can be exempted from this criterion.
  • Must get a nomination from the employer: One must be nominated or sponsored by their employer for full-time work on your subclass 482 or subclass 457 visa before nominating them for the subclass 187 visa for at least three of the four years.
  • Must hold the required visa: The applicant must be a holder of a subclass 457 visa, a subclass 482 (TSS) visa, etc.
  • Must meet health and character requirements: The applicants must meet the health and character requirements per Australian parameters.

  • Get nomination
  • Must be of 45 years or less
  • English proficiency

 

Requirement for Direct Entry Stream

  • Eligible occupation: Applicants must be nominated for an occupation from the list of skilled occupations.
  • Relevant work experience: Candidates must have a relevant work experience of not less than three years.
  • Positive skills assessment: One must undergo a positive skills assessment demonstrating they have the required skills for the nominated occupation.
  • Get nomination: One must get a nomination from an Australian employer who is running an active and lawful business in the country.
  • English proficiency: Applicants will have to have competent English language proficiency.
