Global Talent Independent Program

Highly skilled professionals across the world choose Australia as their destination to build a career. What's the Global Talent Visa Program?

The GTI visa pathway is a streamlined one meant to attract highly skilled foreign professionals to work and reside in Australia.

The brightest and best global talent is in high demand in Australia as they are sought after to work in 10 industrial sectors that are future-focused. The GTI visa program was designed to support the economy by bringing innovative skills to industries that are high-priority in the country.

The Global Talent Visa Program will create opportunities for Australians too. This will happen through:

  • The transfer of skills
  • Promotion of innovation
  • Creation of jobs

Eligibility criteria for Global Talent Visa

If you want to receive an invitation for a Global Talent Visa, you will have to be highly skilled in one of the 10 target industry sectors. You must be able to fetch a salary that meets the high-income threshold.

The aim of the Global Talent Independent program is to get exceptionally talented and skilled professionals who are at the cutting edge of innovation within the target sectors. They will help create opportunities in Australia through the promotion of innovation and job creation.

Talent specifications for GTI Visa 858

You must meet the following criteria to be eligible for a GTI visa:

  • You must prove that you have international recognition. You must produce proof of outstanding achievements.
  • You must give proof that you would be an asset to Australia, in your area of expertise.
  • You must have in Australia a recognized organization or an individual having a national reputation in the same field offer a nomination to you as global talent.
  • You must still be prominent in your field of expertise.
  • You mustn’t have difficulty getting a job in Australia or in becoming established in your field.

Your record of professional achievement must reflect a high standard. You must also have an exceptional track record in

  • Patents
  • Senior roles
  • Professional awards
  • Memberships
  • International publications

You must be able to attract a salary that’s at level with the fair work high-income threshold which comes to AUD158,500.

Note: Every year this figure is adjusted on July 1.

While making this assessment, one of the following is taken into account:

  • Future job offers outlining remuneration
  • Recent Ph.D. graduate in the target sectors
  • The current salary revealed through a contract/payslip

How to apply for a Global Talent Visa?

To begin with, submit an EOI. For this use the Global Talent EOI form. The form and the necessary documents must all be submitted in the English language. The required documents include:

  • A valid passport
  • The details of nomination viz. nominator passport
  • Nomination for Global Talent – Form 1000
  • Proof of:
    • Qualifications
    • Income
    • Employment status
    • Internationally recognized record of exceptional and outstanding achievement in the sector

If your submissions are approved, you will receive an invitation to apply for a GTI visa (Subclass 858). You can apply for this visa via ImmiAccount once you fulfill all criteria including the health and character requirements of yourself and the family members you have added to the application form.

About nominators

A nominator is a person/organization who has completed the application form attesting the information about an applicant for a Subclass 858 visa. Your nominator has to possess a national reputation in Australia in the same field as yours. Besides the opinion of the Australian public/industry community about the nominator being a leader, with a record of excellence in their field, they are also required to be one of the following:

  • An Australian citizen
  • An eligible citizen of New Zealand
  • A permanent resident in Australia
  • An Australian organization

After filing a Global Talent visa application, you can’t change your nominator.
