Upcoming Australia Occupation List changes for 2020

The Dept. of Employment, Skills, Small and Family Business has released its Traffic Bulletin for the consultation period between December 2019 and February 2020. If the Dept. of Home Affairs accepts the proposed changes on the Traffic Light Bulletin, there will be significant changes to the Skilled Occupation Lists of Australia.  Several skilled visas are governed by the Skilled Occupation Lists. They are: 
  • Subclass 407 (Training Visa) 
  • Subclass 482 (Temporary Skill ShortageVisa) 
  • Subclass 494 (Skilled Employer-Sponsored Regional (Provisional) Visa) 
  • Subclass 186 (Employer Nomination Scheme Visa) 
  • Subclass 485 (Temporary Graduate Visa) 
  • Subclass 190 (Skilled Nominated Visa) 
  • Subclass 189 (Skilled Independent Visa) 
  • Subclass 491 (Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa) 
There are three occupation lists in Australia that could be affected by the Traffic Light Bulletin. They are: 
  • Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List 
  • Regional Occupation List 
  • Short-term Skilled Occupation List 
The Traffic Light Bulletin proposes the following occupations to be removed from the STSOL: 
  • 272111 Careers Counsellor 
  • 324212 Vehicle Trimmer 
  • 361199 Animal Attendants and Trainers nec 
  • 342311 Business Machine Mechanic 
  • 391111 Hairdresser 
  • 362211 Gardener (General) 
  • 411611Massage Therapist 
  • 394213 Wood Machinist 
  • 452311 Diving Instructor (Open water) 
  • 411711 Community Worker 
  • 452312 Gymnastics Coach or Instructor 
The following occupations may be moved from the MLTSSL to the STSOL or the ROL: 
  • 321111 Automotive Electrician 
  • 323313 Locksmith 
  • 321213 Motorcycle Mechanic 
  • 332211Painting Trades Worker 
  • 333411Wall and Floor Tiler 
  • 333111 Glazier 
  • 394111Cabinetmaker 
  • 312511Mechanical Engineering Draftsperson 
  • 142115 Post Office Manager 
  • 612115Real Estate Representative 
The following occupation may be moved from the STSOL to the ROL: 
  • 234411 Geologist 
The following occupations may be moved from the ROL or the STSOL to the MLTSSL: 
  • 231213 Ship’s Master 
  • 133612 Procurement Manager 
  • 599612 Insurance loss adjuster (salary caveat of minimum AUD 80,000) 
  • 224999 Information and Organization Professionals nec (salary caveat of minimum AUD 90,000) 
  • 135112ICT Project Manager (salary caveat of AUD 120,000) 
  • 131112 Sales and Marketing Manager (salary caveat of minimum AUD 120,000) 
The following occupations may be added to the STSOL: 
  • 221212 Corporate Treasurer 
  • 423313 Personal Care Assistant 
  • 423111 Aged or Disabled Carer 
  • 423312 Nursing Support Worker 
The following occupations may have salary caveats: 
  • 121312 Poultry Farmer (salary caveat of AUD 65,000) 
  • 452499 Sportspersons nec (salary caveat of AUD 120,000) 
  • 351111 Baker (salary caveat of AUD 65,000) 
  • 323212 Fitter and Turner (salary caveat of AUD 65,000) 
  • 361112 Horse Trainer (salary caveat of AUD 65,000) 
  • 351112 Pastrycook (salary caveat of AUD 65,000)
