UNSW Australia offers extra scholarships to attract Indian students

The University of New South Wales Australia is offering extra scholarships to attract Indian students. It is also expanding the exchange programs for students. UNSW Australia is expanding its ‘Future of Change’ scholarship to 61 Indian students in 2018 while only 11 were offered the same in 2017.

‘Future of Change’ scholarship offers a tuition fee waiver of 5,000 $ for one year to 50 Postgraduate students. It also offers a tuition fee waiver of 10,000 $ per year to 10 more students. 1 student is offered complete tuition fee waiver, as quoted by the Hindu.

The students are required to send a 2-minute digital video testimonial to get selected for the scholarship. It must elaborate on how the scholarship will assist in realization of their aspirations. They must also possess good academic records.

UNSW Australia India Country-Director Amit Dasgupta said that the Government of Australia views overseas students as an investment. UNSW has 6,000 overseas students as of now, he added. Chinese are the largest group of overseas students followed by Indians said the Country-Director.

UNSW has 350 plus Indian students as of now. Owing to the ‘UNSW India Engagement’ program, the numbers will definitely go higher, said Dasgupta.

The Australian government has also launched another initiative called the ‘New Colombo Plan’. It offers the overseas students in Australia the opportunity to spend a couple of weeks in the Asia Pacific Region. More numbers of Australian students are expressing interest in this 3-week program. They are attracted by the prospects of working with some of the top firms.
