Here are the top seven reasons why the study permit application might get rejected:
IRCC requires candidates to demonstrate sufficient proof of funds to support themselves while in Canada, in addition to paying for travel and tuition. The amount of funds of a single applicant who is residing outside Quebec in 2024, on top of travel and tuition costs, is $20,635 CAD, which represents 75% of the low income cutoff. The fund amount changes according to the size of the family. The fund requirements are set to rise annually.
*Note: The amount of funds changes according to the accompanying family member with the students.
The required funds for international students studying in Canada are:

Applicants must satisfy the immigration officer that they will leave Canada after completing their studies. This can be proved if they demonstrate that they have a sufficient connection to their home country so that they will mostly return and stay within their temporary stay. To further assess the ties to the home country, IRCC officers will also consider general economic and political factors that may impact your ability or motivation to return to your home country. This can include financial ability (airplane ticket, bank assets, money) or legal ability (passport, travel document, visa) to return to the home country.
The officers will review the candidate's academic score. The candidate must have consistently good grades and have completed English language proficiency tests like IELTS and TOEFL. Good grades and proof of English language proficiency are essential.
Applicants can include a letter of explanation as supporting documents for their study permit application. In this letter, an applicant can describe their goals and motivations for choosing the course to study in Canada. Here are the things that can be included in the letter of explanation:
|

IRCC will only process applications if they are complete. They will return the application to the applicant with a written request for the missing information. The application can also be returned if they fail to pay the necessary fees.
Below are the eligibility requirements that must be submitted to apply for a study permit application:
As of December 1, 2023, new foreign students must have their LOAs (Letter of Admission) to a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) validated by the school to proceed with a study permit application. This step can be done after International students submit their study permit application.
DLIs will have ten calendar days to validate the admission letter in IRCC’s online portal as part of this process. If the LOA is not validated within this time frame, IRCC will mark it as incomplete.
The visa officer will pay close attention to whether the applicant’s chosen study program matches their goals, including their education qualification. They will question if there is a sudden change of field of interest or stream of study. So it is necessary to choose the study course wisely.
