It’s time to quickly lodge Australia PR Visa applications as Turnbull government has softened its stand on 457 visas. Peter Dutton the Immigration Minister of Australia has said that latest curbs on visas will be inapplicable to applicants and holders of 457 visas. Thus the Australian government has retracted its tough position on 457 visas.

The Government of Australia has announced that applications that are in the pipeline will not be affected by fresh curbs on PR pathway effective from March 2018.

The Immigration agents in Australia are recommending that prospective applicants must submit their Australia PR Visa applications at the earliest. The Department of Home Affairs has issued a notice to the Immigration agents in this regard. It says that workers who had applied for 457 visas prior to April 2017 can still apply for PR after 2 years.

The 457 visas will be abolished in March 2018. These will be replaced by limited 2 and 4-year visas. Only the 4-year visas will offer the pathway to Australia PR. The new restrictions will not be applicable to those who already possess bridging or 457 visas. It will also exclude those who had submitted their application prior or on 18 April 2017. Those who have subsequently obtained the visa will not be subject to fresh criterions, as quoted by the AFR.

Thus it implies that 457 visa holders who can apply for Australia PR after March 2018 can be lesser than 50 years and not 45 as per new laws. They will also be able to apply for PR after 2 years and not as per the new 3-year requirement. They will also not be affected by the revised list for eligible occupations.
