Highlights: 35,500 youngsters to receive Free Europe Travel Passes this summer

• This summer, 35,500 European youngsters will receive free travel passes to explore the continent.
• From July 1, 2024, to September 2025, youngsters who are selected for the pass can travel alone or in a group of five people.
• More than 180,000 young people applied for the free travel pass in the recent round of April.
• To be eligible for the DiscoverEU scheme of the free Europe travel pass, the youngsters must be 18 years old.

Free Europe Travel Passes

The Commission of the EU will distribute the free Europe travel passes under the DiscoverEU schemes. The program aims to educate youngsters about Europe's diversity, history, and heritage. The selected youngster can also receive a European Youth Card, which will offer discounts on local transport, visits, sports, accommodation, learning activities, and food.

 

Eligibility Criteria for the DiscoverEU Scheme

To be eligible for the DiscoverEU scheme, the youngsters must be:

 

• 18 years old
• Provide the correct information on the application.
• A legal citizen from the EU member states or countries associated with the Erasmus+ program, such as Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, or Türkiye.

The next round of the Application

The scheme was launched in 2018, after which around 1.4 million youngsters have applied for the passes. Each year, there are two rounds of Application: the first in the spring and the second in the autumn. The next round will be after the summer. High numbers of applications are also expected to be registered in the next round.
