The report by Infrastructure Australia has said that Sydney must embrace immigrants or it will lag behind in growth. It has elaborated that issues associated with growth must not scare the city residents from accepting immigration. This report has been revealed even as there are repeated demands to restrict the intake of fresh residents in the city.

Earlier, the ex-Prime Minister of Australia Tony Abbott said that immigration levels are creating issues for the major cities in the nation. This was with respect to the housing, employment, and infrastructure, he added, as quoted by the Courier.

On the other hand, Philip Davies the CEO of Infrastructure Australia said that Sydney must continue to embrace immigrants. Else, it will remain behind in growth. He said that additional 2.6 million people are anticipated to arrive in Sydney by 2046 and they offer immense economic opportunities.

Mr. Davies cautioned that Sydney was at risk in lagging behind other international cities such as London and Singapore. This was if it did not cease the debates regarding the growth of population, he said. Undoubtedly, there are issues associated with growth. But this cannot be a reason to discard growth itself, added the CEO.

Infrastructure Australia has also revealed another report with respect to the planning of Australian cities. It has asked the government to enhance investment for employment centers, well planned public spaces, and free public transport. It further added that it was also needed to enhance the entire planning for cities. This is required to make sure delivery of infrastructure at the needed hour and right places.
