South Australia has announced the new occupation list under the DAMA (Designated Area Migration Agreement). The DAMA aims to help employers and businesses in South Australia get access to skilled foreign workers. This will be applicable to sectors which are facing an acute shortage of workforce in the state.

There will be 2 Designated Area Migration Agreements for the state of South Australia.

The first DAMA will cover the Adelaide Metropolitan Area. There will be 60 occupations listed on the Adelaide Innovation and Technology Agreement. This will support the Adelaide City Deal. This DAMA will also provide a pathway to Permanent Residence to visa holders.

The second DAMA is called the South Australian Regional Workforce Agreement. This DAMA will cover the enter state of SA. There are 114 occupations listed on this DAMA. As per Migration SA, these occupations cover the below sectors:

  • Agribusiness
  • Hospitality and Tourism
  • Health and Aged Care
  • Mining
  • Construction

The South Australian Regional Workforce Agreement will also have the provision of Permanent Residency.

The DAMA includes some very popular occupations which will lead to Permanent Residence.  Occupations like Chef, Baker, Restaurant Manager, Accommodation and Hospitality Manager and Aged Carer are included in the DAMA.

Occupations like Dental Assistant and Dentist are also available on the DAMA, as per SBS News. These occupations will also receive concessions on language skills, age, experience and salary.

The Designated Area Migration Agreement happens to be an employer-sponsored program. Applicants may obtain the Subclass 482 Temporary Skill Shortage Visa under the Labour Agreement Stream. The DAMA allows employers in Australia to hire foreign workers for jobs which they are unable to fill locally.

Details regarding the application process under the DAMA will be released on 1st July 2019.
