New decisions have been made in Canada lately regarding passport issuance. This should be of interest to those tracking the Canada immigration updates. Canadians who are in imminent need for a passport can apply once again by mail. This was applicable as on July 31, 2020.
In case the Canadians are traveling in under 30 days, or require their passports on an urgent basis, they can now put in a request for in-person appointments.
If Canadians aren’t having any travel plans, the government has advised them to wait before applying for a passport. A delay in processing is expected by the government, which has made them suggest so. The delay is happening due to the high demand for passports and the measures implemented for the safety of the staff and Canadians.
The renewal of passport has also been made simpler a process. The applicants will not have to resubmit their citizenship documents and declaration by a guarantor. The simplified passport renewal process is accessible to those whose passports expired on or after 1st February 2019. The new process must be used within 2 years after the expiry date.
Service Canada centers are now delivering passport services only by appointment. The nearest Service Canada center can be located visa Canadian government website.
Canadians abroad can reach out to the nearest office of the Government of Canada for travel document services. Depending on the local conditions, these offices are giving passport services at different levels.
Refugee travel documents as well as identity certificates have been processed on an urgent basis.
