If you are a non-EU national and have made the big decision to work in Germany for a German employer you love to work with, you will want to know how to get a Germany work permit.

Now, Germany work visa is different from Germany work permit. A work visa lets a person enter a country to live and work in a country. On the other hand, a work permit is issued by the employer in a particular country to an employee in a country overseas. With the work permit, the candidate can enter the country of the employer and proceed to work for the company that has fetched the person the permit.

The Germany work permit is issued as a German work & residence permit. You can lodge a single application for both together at the office of the German Immigration Authority. Non-EU nationals will also need to get a visa from a German consulate or embassy abroad.

Germany Work Permit Categories

  • General Work Permit: It’s for you if you have found a job in Germany that was not possible to be filled by an EU national. You only need to qualify for the job position.
  • Highly Skilled Worker Permit: It’s for you if you are a highly skilled worker with years of experience and draw a high income.
  • EU Blue Card: It’s for you if your annual salary will be at least €56,800. This will be €44,304 per annum in case you are in an occupation that has a shortage of workers in Germany.
  • Freelancer Work Permit: It’s for you if you are a self-employed individual or a freelancer with proven prospective clients.
