The reason behind the introduction of the Recovery Visa

The New Zealand government has introduced the Recovery Visa program intending to expedite the arrival of foreign specialists who can contribute to the country's recovery efforts in the aftermath of weather-related disasters.

This visa allows skilled workers to promptly enter New Zealand and provide various forms of assistance, including:

  • Direct recovery support
  • Risk assessment
  • Emergency response
  • Infrastructure and housing stabilization and repair
  • Clean-up activities.

Who are eligible for the Recovery visa?

Applicants for the Recovery Visa are required to offer support in the following areas as per immigration regulations –

  • Conducting risk assessments or evaluating losses.
  • Contributing to emergency response efforts.
  • Assisting with infrastructure, building, housing stabilization, and repair, including planning functions.
  • Participating in recovery activities such as producing materials for road reconstruction and working as transport drivers.

- Successful applicants for the Recovery Visa will not incur any fees

- The government aims to complete the application processing within a seven-day timeframe.

- The visa will be valid for up to six months.

Exclusions Apply: Recovery Visa in New Zealand - Who's Ineligible?

  • Industries that offer indirect support, such as businesses experiencing a surge in demand for their services within the affected areas, will not be eligible to apply for the Recovery Visa.
  • Additionally, the visa will not be accessible to fill vacancies left by individuals who have chosen to engage in recovery work.
  • The Recovery Visa program focuses on attracting skilled workers dedicated to providing direct assistance and expertise in recovery efforts.
