A look at the true picture of US restrictions and tourism

The US has been selective in easing its border restrictions for US immigration. Some regions like Europe and countries like China and Brazil have been clearly kept away to implement COVID-19 prevention measures.

Now, the US has eased restrictionswith the intention to revive its tourism sector. Here are the countries that the US is permitting to enter its borders and those that have to wait to use the US tourist visa.

Among the countries that are permitted to arrive in the US for tourism are:

  • Canada (Air only)
  • South Korea
  • New Zealand
  • Japan
  • Chile
  • Australia

These countries do not need a visa to enter the USA. They are also not included in the US President’s proclamations for the travel ban.

The quarantine measures the travelers from these countries may have to go through depends on the policy of the state or city they land in. Here are a few major cities that tourists must be aware of.

Los Angeles

Incoming travelers are not subject to self-isolation measures as stipulated by LA County health.

Hawaii

All people, no matter whether they are visitors or residents, who come from outside Hawaii must be subject to 14-day self-quarantine. This policy is active through July 31, 2020.

New York

Travelers from South Korea and Japan with COVID-19 symptoms must practice self-isolation for 14 days.

Miami

Every passenger arriving on direct flights from New York Tri-State area airports (New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut) will be asked some travel questions. The travelers are then notified about the executive order’s direction requiring them to practice self-isolation for 14 days.

Seattle

No travel restrictions are imposed on travelers arriving in Seattle.

Houston

No travel restrictions are imposed on travelers arriving in Houston.

Las Vegas

No travel restrictions are imposed on travelers arriving in Las Vegas.

The following tourist attractions in the US have reopened:

  • Golden Gate Bridge
  • Times Square
  • Yellowstone National Park
  • Niagara Falls
  • New York Central Park
  • Grand Canyon
  • Universal Studios Orlando
  • Disneyworld (on July 11, 2020)
  • Las Vegas Casinos

Disneyland and Statue of Liberty remain closed.

The countries who are still not permitted to enter the US include:

Europe

All travelers coming from Europe are banned from entry into the US. Anyone who has been to Europe in 14 days before arriving in the US is also not allowed to enter the US.

The following are the European countries, travelers from where are banned in the US.

Brazil

All travelers from Brazil are banned. Anyone who has been to Brazil in 14 days before arriving in the US is also not allowed to enter the US. But US citizens coming back from Brazil are exempt from the ban.

Iran

Any traveler who has been to Iran in 14 days before arriving in the US are not allowed to enter the US. But US citizens coming back from Iran are exempt from the ban.

China

Any traveler who has been to China in 14 days before arriving in the US are not allowed to enter the US. But US citizens coming back from China are exempt from the ban.
