Key to 2030 success is Immigration and Maths says Innovation and Science Australia

Innovation and Science Australia the science advisory body of the government has revealed in its strategic plan that the key to 2030 success is Immigration and Maths. It also elaborates on specific “National Missions” that is aimed at propelling the nation ahead.

The strategic plan advocates that Australia must have an immigration system that is open. It also recommends that teaching Science and Maths must be given priority. The recommendations are a part of the innovation plan that has been given to the Turnbull government.

Innovation and Science Australia has made 30 recommendations in it strategic report encompassing 5 core areas. These include Industry, Education, Government, Research & Development, and Culture & Ambition, as quoted by the SBS.

Bill Ferris the Chair of the Innovation and Science Australia said that the national missions will assist to enhance the culture of innovation in Australia. These could also be applied to global challenges, he added. It was likely erroneous to eliminate Science and Maths from being mandatory into Year 12, said Ferris.

The Chair of the group further elaborated that greater investments must be made in the quality of teachers. Higher emphasis must also be given to skills that prepare children for careers in IT, Engineering and Science, he added.
