Japan is all set to gradually begin letting entry to foreigners. For this, the country’s going to introduce newly issued long-term visas from October 2020. The Japanese Prime Minister has indicated the move to relax the tough restrictions that were brought into effect earlier this year at the onset of COVID-19.

The relaxations in travel restrictions will be applicable to foreigners with the appropriate visas. These include dependent visas and student visas. These visitor visa holders will be selected sequentially from nations that have shown improvement in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic.

These nationals entering Japan will have to test for COVID-19 upon arrival. But foreigners on a tourist visa are still not allowed to enter Japan.

The conditions for relaxing the travel restrictions will be implemented through negotiations with countries on a bilateral basis. The number of people allowed entry will be limited to 1,000.

Japan has managed to control the pandemic outbreak much better than countries like the USA and India.
