Ireland Approves Record Citizenship Applications and Issues Passports in 2024

According to the Department of Justice, over 30,000 decisions were made on Irish citizenship in 2024. This figure has increased since last year, and it represents a notable increase compared to 2023’s figures, during which 20,000 decisions were made on the application of Irish citizenship.

 

According to the report from INL, Ireland issued more than 6,000 new Irish citizenships from 140 countries worldwide, which were granted in seven ceremonies scheduled for December 2 and 3.

New Changes Facilitate Citizenship Acquirement Procedure

Ireland's authority introduced several changes to speed up the application process of acquiring citizenship, such as the introduction of an online digital application, online payments, and eVetting. In 2023, the Irish government launched a platform that helped candidates submit their citizenship applications online to make the process easier. These new changes allow applicants to finish the procedure online. The paper-based option is also available for those unable to access the online services.

 

As stated by the Irish government, the new system for online citizenship will improve public services and the application process. Ireland also announced that by November 4, 2024, the application process to renew the residence permit will move online for all foreign nationals.
