Highlights: IRCC announces Canada Study permit caps for all provinces

  • IRCC released final allocations of Canada study permits for each province in 2024
  • In 2024, Ontario received the largest allocation of study permits of 235,000
  • The allocation were distributed according to the population of the provinces and territories.
  •  Quebec received the next high number of allocations after Ontario with 117,917 study permits.

Details of how the study permits allocations are being distributed:

Canada's territories accepted the allocation of study permit applications based on the population of each province. IRCC will receive allocated number of study permit application.

 

Provinces that received more  allocations in 2024 than in 2023 have their allocations restricted to 10% of their population.

Canadian provinces that received allocation:

Ontario received the largest allocation of study permits, 235,000. According to IRCC, Ontario is a famous province with 530 DLIs (designated learning institutions). However, 96% of Ontario's allocated study permits will be for public universities and colleges.

 

Other provinces also received a higher overall allocation. Quebec is second on the list, with 117,917 study permits allocated. Alberta has received an all-total allocation of 40,894 study permits.

 

Earlier, Nova Scotia received an allocation of 12,900 study permit allocations.

 

According to recent data, IRCC announced it would process around 606,000 applications and welcome 360,000 students in 2024.
