Details of Canada study permit:

Canada wants to restrict the arrival of too many international students to the country as the report released by IRCC Canada wants to decrease 35% of what was noticed in 2023.

According to Marc Miller, international students are vital to Canada as they enrich the community. However, this measure is being taken to ensure that the students get access to the resources they need for an academic experience.

This measure will strike a balance between immigration and educational institutions. IRCC will implement this cap for each province and territory to limit the overflowing population. This move addresses the substantial growth of international students.

These caps will not affect existing study permit holders seeking a renewal. Masters and doctoral degree pursuits are free from these limitations.

From 22 January 2024, all study permit applications submitted to IRCC will require an attested letter from relevant provinces or territories. Provinces are expected to establish the process for issuing letters by March 31, 2024.The Cap will be re-assed by 2025.

Changes that will addressed through these:

Post-Graduation Work permit:

IRCC has announced the different eligibility criteria for the Post Graduation Work permit (PGWP) in 2024. International students engaged in Study permits under the curriculum program will not be qualified for PGWP. This addresses the concern about oversight in Private colleges compared to public institutions.

IRCC also introduced a 3-year work permit for graduates from master's programs and other short graduate-level programs. This criterion is considered crucial as it addresses the limitation faced by master's degree students under the current criteria, which have the PGPW duration to the length of the study program.

In the upcoming weeks, IRCC will release more details on open work permits, which will be available for spouses of international students. These Open work permits will be available for spouses of international students in Masters and Doctoral programs.

Maintaining Integrity:

Marc Miller focused on the challenges faced by international students needing proper education due to overpopulation. IRCC acknowledged that specific institutions have increased student institutions for student intake for financial gains, leading to students arriving without adequate support. So, this program will maintain the integrity of the colleges and not overpopulate them.

Canada witnessed over 800,000 international students in 2022, which resulted in rise of 900,000 in 2023. In 2024, Canada DLIs are expected to be placed in academic season, promising expedited processing for study permits.
