To ensure safe air travel across EU countries, IATA has supported the plan to impose a Vaccination Certificate. This certificate will be issued to EU nationals who have received the COVID-19 vaccination. They will be deemed safe. They will be allowed to travel freely within European countries. They can do so without meeting the obligation of undergoing COVID-19 testing.

Though the idea of a Vaccination Certificate is still controversial, the idea of imposing such a certificate has been supported by IATA. But WHO’s Emergency Committee has opposed the idea stressing the fact that the effectiveness of the vaccines on reducing transmission of the COVID-19 virus is yet to be established.

The plan to impose the Vaccination Certificate was put forward by Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Greece’s Prime Minister. His argument was that vaccination is a key factor to safely reopen borders and lead to economic recovery. He also cited that the certificate will help passengers to confidently travel without the hassle of mandatory quarantine.

IATA’s support comes in view of restarting a safe and harmonized aviation sector to urgently resume its operations across Europe. This will allow travelers to move around in Europe on visas like tourist visa.

The President of the European Commission has supported the idea of a Vaccination Certificate. He has also stressed the necessity of EU nations reaching a standard agreement after discussing this plan to implement a Vaccination Certificate.

Till now, Iceland, Italy, Spain, and Denmark have shown willingness to adopt this idea to enable smooth movement of people across European borders.
