Historic record for Manitoba - 2019 sees the highest immigration

A new milestone in Canada immigration has been set in 2019 by Manitoba. The province recorded 18,905 approved immigration applications. This is the highest in the province’s history spanning 150 years. The new achievement is driving Manitoba’s motivation to create 40,000 jobs in 4 years.

Immigration has always been a critical factor for Manitoba. It helps in the economic and population growth of the province. Manitoba’s immigration is a major part of Canada PR immigration too. It is a tool in Manitoba's economic planning.

12,545 immigrant arrivals in Manitoba happened through the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program. The MPNP has been very successful especially in 2019. The application backlogs have been drastically reduced. For this, dedicated resources have been assigned along with an increased admission space.

The emphasis on skilled workers has been a salient feature of Manitoba PNP. In 2019, nearly 75% of newcomers were candidates of working age. The growth in the labor force of Manitoba in the past 5 years has a great contribution from immigrants. 88% of these workers have come directly through immigration. This happened following a rise in the demand for skilled workers. The government has been addressing the issue quite effectively. The accolade of the highest immigration application was also achieved by Nova Scotia. It registered 2,780 immigrants applying in 2019.

Manitoba’s collaborative efforts are on with different establishments. These include post-secondary institutions, the business community, invested stakeholders and different levels of government. Such collaborations are fueling its capacity to attract skilled and talented youngsters from within and outside the province. The thriving economy of Manitoba owes a lot to the young newcomers in the province.

There is still a challenge to be met in Canada’s immigration scene. The requirements of small to medium-sized workers in the country is yet to be filled. Manitoba can do much in this regard if it keeps up the current momentum.
