Greece needs foreign workers to address the country's labor shortage

Greece is dealing with a major labor shortage and needs over 300,000 foreign workers to address the shortage.  Greece lacks skilled workers in different sectors and occupations. Both unskilled and skilled workers are in demand, especially in tourism.

 

Greece needs electricians, IT professionals, welders, machine operators, plumbers, production employees, and systems security specialists, among others. However, the country is facing a labor shortage in different sectors, which presents many obstacles. Bringing in foreign workers can take between six and nine months, which is a long process.

 

As stated by Kathimerini, over 2,000 Greek businesses have expressed a desire to hire foreign workers from WorkInGreece, an online platform that matches international talent and supplies labor. Foreign workers from India, Bangladesh, Egypt, Moldova, Georgia, and Vietnam are highly interested in working in Greece.

Greece Simplified EU Blue Card rules to attract foreign professionals

In June 2024, Greece made the EU Blue Card procedure easier for highly qualified foreign workers to work and reside in the country. Greece has also introduced foreign nationals to enter the country visa-free regime, and short-stay visa holders can apply for an EU Blue Card.

 

Greece also introduced new rules for pre-screening approval. Applicants have a choice whether to undergo the pre-screening process or not.
