Sports Ministry of Ghana will probe reports of visa scandal at Australia Commonwealth Games that has affected the nation’s participation at the games. This was informed by the Deputy Sports Minister of Ghana Pius Enam Hadzide.

Media had reported visa racket scandal at the Australia Commonwealth Games that has affected 65 nationals of Ghana. These have been deported, detained or stranded. The action has been taken by Australian immigration authorities and transit nations such as Singapore on doubts of visa scandal, as quoted by the Xinhuanet.

The Ghana nationals who are beleaguered claimed to be journalists. They were supposed to offer coverage for the Ghana Team at the games being held in Gold Coast in Australia. These Ghanaians were offered Media visas by diverse Ghana media houses.

However, the authorities in Australia were not persuaded for their reasons for arriving at the nation. This was in spite of having authentic visas. Majority of them did not have any equipment for coverage of a sporting event.

Addressing the media, Hadzide refuted claims that this Ministry was associated with facilitating visas for the visiting media to Australia. He added that full-scale investigation will be held in this issue. the guilty will be punished, said the Minister.

In the meantime, Journalists Association of Ghana has demanded a thorough investigation by the appropriate government authorities.
